I suspended my OF INTEREST section a couple of months ago now but I have kept an eye on what would have qualified and recently, things have started to look positive again.
Had I been looking to populate that section of the Newsletter this morning one horse would have certainly fitted
GENEVA SPUR (Epsom 5-25)
Now, everyone that knows me, knows how much I loathe betting on racing at Epsom. If a jockey as good as Ryan Moore finds it so hard riding winners there, it’s hardly surprising that backing winners there is every bit as difficult.
This horse makes debut in a very sad looking Class 6, but whilst I as a punter, and Moore as a jockey, struggle here, Roger Varian as a trainer, most certainly does not.
His record in recent times with 3-y-o’s at Epsom is ridiculous (38% strike rate), and Andrea Atzeni’s record when riding for Varian here is as equally bonkers….again, 38% (8-21).
The horse runs in the lowest grade for the first time today and all looks set fair for a big run….if the poor beast doesn’t come off Tattenham Corner and finds its legs going one way, its head going another, as it rolls down the camber and the jockey does all he can to stop it….hate the place!
If you’ve got one you fancy yourself, feel free to post a comment on this post and let’s see what you’ve got!
There are several reasons a horse will catch my eye. The only course and distance winner in the race, a horse that has won two races on the trot(no pun intended). A jockey travelling to a meeting for one ride, a winning sprinter running again within seven days, an Irish horse at a northern or scottish meeting. A horse that has won or been placed in the same race the previous year. Today, amongst others, I like
Thegreatestshowman 3.15 Epsom won last twice and only ride for jockey
Fascinating Spirit 6.00 Musselburgh Irish horseUXB
Betsy Trotter 4.05 Ripon won last three
Pipers Note 4.05 Ripon only CD winner in the race
Shouramour 4.35 Ripon only CD winner in the race UXB
Break of Day 5.25 Epsom Tom Marquand has only two rides at the meeting and this looks to be the main chance.
