Catching My Eye 27/09/19

The weather where I am (just a 40 minute car ride from both Haydock and Chester, is appalling right now with heavy showers falling on what will already be very testing ground at Haydock and certainly Chester’s meeting tomorrow will see it run on slow ground, for sure.

I’m mindful that with so few horses racing at Haydock proven in those conditions, I should avoid like the plague anything I feel would run well there, under its optimum conditions.

In the last two racing days I have found the following for my members:

KHALIFA SAT – WON
ALEMARATALYOUM – WON
SIMOON – WON
WICHITA – WON
TOP RANK – WON

They are horses that I had spotted attracting early money when the markets opened, that kept attracting money right through the evening, right up until I’d finalised my mid-morning update.

There were only five and all five won.

Today, rather than tell you I’ve anything catching my eye other than the bad weather, I’ll advise you of two horses that fit the same bill as that quintet above.

FESTIVAL DAY (Newmarket 3-00)
MOUNT EVEREST (Newmarket 4-45)

Before the season started I was not looking forward to seeing any horse more than MOUNT EVEREST. I had him earmarked as my Derby horse. Unfortunately he was injured and only recently made seasonal debut. My Derby horse instead became JAPAN….beaten just 1/2 a length into third place @ 20/1.

Anyone that got on at the 13/8 last night will be feeling mighty pleased with themselves, as MOUNT EVEREST now trades 8/11…..the money for this horse has been constant.

At Newcastle this evening one has given me a little wave. AXE AXELROD wears blinkers for the first time tonight, and it’s Connor Beasley’s only ride there.

This horse has only raced on al all weather surface three times, winning once and placing once. He has been campaigned primarily on the flat proving next too useless on that surface so a return to the tapeta, in this grade, surely gives him a squeak.

The most interesting stat to me though is that any horse that Michael Dodds bangs first time blinkers on, currently has a 43% (3-7), chance of success.

Currently around the 9/2 mark, he’s worth a 20/80.

Best of luck today.
